I have been eyeing this “Art creation by Talens” sketchbook for quite some time. The cover is so beautiful and the paper inside is white instead of cream color!

There were not many reviews on the white paper version. Those I have found are pretty diverse, some said they are the same, some said they are totally different. I think I can only try for myself.

For ink, I think they are pretty similar. I feel like the white paper can take a little bit more ink than the cream one, just slightly. But for watercolor, sadly colors became so dull and greyish.🥹🥹🥹 For Gouache, it is as usual, perform nicely on different surfaces. The dye-based Koh-i-Noor Anilinky brilliant watercolor has no problem at all.

The white paper doesn’t take as much water as the cream one. First light wash is ok, color turns dull after drying. If your brush touches it the second time, it starts to show signs of peeling. And this is just color swatches, I haven’t paint yet.

Let’s see how it goes when I start to paint in the future. Maybe it will be better(or not😂😂😂).

Those Kaki trees are beautiful! Apparently my raccoon side of me is suppressed by the arty side of me. I draw them instead of trying to eat them.🤣🤣🤣

Carry on with the inktober spirit, I am trying to focus on birds this month.
I started the first day on a cheap sketchbook, but I forgot the paper inside doesn’t take watercolor at all. So I went back to a better sketchbook. Therefore I had 2 pages for day 1!🙈🙈🙈

It has been a year since I started urban sketching. It has been an eye-opening journey. From urban sketching, I discovered nature journaling and observational drawing. I fall in love with art again! I develop a habit of sketching or drawing everyday.

I used to be strict about those so-called “rules” of urban sketching, up to a point that it stresses me out. Then I realised all those labels shouldn’t chained me down. They showed me different perspectives to look at this world and different approaches to express ourselves through art. At some point I let go of all those labels and “rules”, and just “ART”. I just draw or paint whatever, wherever and however I want. But urban sketching did ease my way into doing art again.

I have learned a lot in a year. I attempted something new in every drawing/sketch. Also, different art mediums (ink, watercolor, gansai, acrylic, flashe paint, gouache, wax pastel, oil pastel, paint stick, markers, color pencils, pencils). By putting lines and paints on the paper physically, I discovered what I like and enjoy doing. Things I enjoy looking at doesn’t mean I enjoy drawing them myself. I don’t have the fear of “blank paper” anymore. I have learned by doing that, “it is just a piece of paper, you can always grab a new piece of paper.”. I just move on when I make an “ugly” drawing, and start a new one. I am not worried about having “my own style“ at this moment. I am still learning and absorbing eagerly.

From my own experience, I truly believe drawing is a skill one can learn, not a gift. You don’t need any “talent” to start. As I don’t believe in talent, I believe in natural tendencies(For example, you are more sensitive to sound, you are more observational, you enjoy movement, you enjoy being alone, etc.) and hard work. And of course, if these tendencies get nurtured and developed, accompanied with hard work (many trials and errors) you would see amazing results. But our society tends to conclude everything with one word and ignore all efforts behind the scenes.

This is my first InkTober challenge. 🙏🏻
It is done!!! I made it!! What a journey!!!🥳🥳🥳
I have gained more confidence in my inking skills. I have uesd ballpoint pen, brush pen, fountain pen, fineliner, watercolor ink in waterbrush pen, highlighter in this challenge. It was done on a Talens art creation sketchbook.

I usually spent around 20-30mins on each drawing before my breakfast everyday. During this challenge, I enjoy starting my day with creativity and practice. Therefore, I want to carry on this morning practice, probably on different subjects I am interested in at that moment.

First one: I tried to sketch with watercolour first, and then add ink sketch afterwards. (30 mins)
Second one: I did ink sketch first, then ink wash, and watercolour last. (45mins)

I am looking for the saturation of natural color or poster color. But I can’t get good quality poster color here in Germany. I tried with tempera this time.

I think tempera is good enough for now.
